The Success Of The Apprentice - 896 Words

While watching the apprentice I noticed that a lot of concepts that we’ve learned this semester can be easily correlated. From Mr. Trump’s borderline autocratic leadership style to the secondary tension build between Kwame, Bowie, and Sam I could definitely see some of the concepts being used by the cast. Tuckmans 4 phases of group development, forming, storming, norming, and performing were also quite evident in this season of the apprentice. Forming is basically why people form. In episode one when the ladies first started to meet everyone you could tell that they all felt a need to belong. They knew that they were specifically chosen to take on this task and knew only one could win the apprentice position in the end. They seemed to be optimistic about their groups and after the lemonade selling task it was evident that they began to have an attraction to the group activities. It wasn’t long before the storming phase occurred on the women’s team. Stormin g comprises of two levels of tension. Primary tension is when you first gather in a group you may feel jitters or uneasiness. In the first episode a few people, mainly the women had this type of tension. They looked at the other girls as someone they were trying to get to know and build friendships but still keeping the mindset that everyone is there in competition; which led to some of the women having uncomfortable moments of silence or engaging in overly polite conversations.
